The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the foremost IT professional association in Nigeria and Africa’s largest IT Society is set to recognise and celebrate individuals, state governments and institutions, for their outstanding and excellent contributions towards the acceleration of Information Technology (IT) development in Nigeria and the Diaspora, at its annual National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA 2025), scheduled to hold November 20th at MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
NCS has been the voice of Information Technology professionals for the past four decades, with current membership strength of over 35,000 members spread across all sectors of the economy, as NCS continues to expand and grow in might and relevance.
The highlights of the awards to be presented include: IT Personality of the Year; Digital Governor of the Year; IT Gold Medal Award; Youth Innovation Award; IT Company of the Year; Tech Mentor of the Year; Cybersecurity Advocate of the Year
Speaking at a recent press conference in Lagos to announce this year’s NITMA awards, the President of NCS, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, said the awards would recognise outstanding governors and individuals that are making enormous investments in Information Technology (IT).
“Several nominations were received for the award categories, which will be reviewed by the screening committee following some laid-down guidelines. NCS, as an objective society, allows the selection process to be IT driven by opinion poll through online voting. The Planning Committee will only collate polls and put forth the order of scores and announce the winners in each category.
“This year’s NITMA will also witness the conferment of the most prestigious Professional Fellowship on deserving members of NCS who are recognised as authorities and have distinguished themselves through significant contributions to the growth of Information Technology. Honourary Fellowship will also be conferred on some individuals who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary service and commitment to IT growth in Nigeria,” Aliyu said.
Chairman, Publicity and Events Committee at NCS, Mrs. Shulammite Ilebiyi, said this year’s awards have been designed in a very unique way to showcase those that have promoted IT development in the country. According to her, more award categories have been introduced in NITMA 2025 to expand the scope of the annual awards.
“The awards have created a huge impact on the individuals, institutions and the government, since its inception and we are proud to say that the government is becoming more interested in the advocacy of NCS in driving technology development in Nigeria. This is evident in the yearly increase of new inductees into the NCS professional body. This year, at the international conference in Kano, 1,400 new members were inducted into the IT profession,” Ilebiyi said.
Former Executive Secretary of NCS, Mr. Iyiola Ayoola, commended the past and the current National Executive Council (NEC) members of NCS for promoting digital transformation across the country, through the NCS platform. He equally commended the media for being a dependant partner of NCS in enhancing technology development in Nigeria.
