The Rotary Club of Abuja Gwarinpa, under the leadership of its President, Dr. Njideka Kanu, has rolled out a life-changing Maternal and Child Health Project, reaffirming its commitment to community service.
Launched in Gwarinpa, Abuja, the project reached over 150 beneficiaries with essential healthcare services and support targeted at women and children.

The outreach featured a range of interventions, including breast and cervical cancer screening, where 11 women with pre-cancerous lesions were treated with thermal ablation, while one advanced case was referred for urgent medical attention.
Beneficiaries also received HIV testing, routine check-ups, and deworming medication for children.
The initiative went beyond medical care, offering reproductive cancer education, nutrition talks for expectant mothers, and the distribution of mosquito nets, sanitary pads, and other essential supplies to promote healthier living.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Kanu said the project underscores the club’s mission to improve lives, especially for mothers and children. “Stories like Amina’s remind us why we do what we do. Health must always come first,” she stated.
Dr. Kanu, whose tenure has been marked by innovative projects, is steering the club toward tackling pressing challenges such as maternal health, cervical cancer prevention, and digital education. Under the theme #UniteForGood, the Rotary Club of Abuja Gwarinpa continues to strengthen its footprint as a force for community development.
Grateful recipients described the project as a lifeline. Amina, one of the beneficiaries, said, “This has given me hope and health for my family.”
Another participant, Hajia Salamatu, expressed relief after her screening, adding, “I’m grateful for this test. I had no idea I was at risk.”
