The Sokoto State government has assured hundreds of displaced residents of Tureta and Dange/Shuni local government areas that necessary measures are being taken to ensure their safe return home.

The residents were forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in the secretariat of Tureta local government council after bandit attacks ravaged their communities.

The state Deputy Governor,  Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, who visited the displaced residents, said the state government is collaborating with security agencies to restore peace in the affected areas.

“We are working tirelessly to ensure that you return to your homes safely and soon. We appeal to you to report any suspicious characters to security agencies for prompt action, ” Gobir said.

The government has also donated food items and cash to alleviate the suffering of the affected people.

The chairman of Tureta LGA, Alhaji Aliyu Abubukar Tureta, requested the stationing of security camps in Kuruwa, Lambar Tureta, and Tsamiya areas to secure the region.

“We are grateful for the government’s efforts, but we need more to be done to secure our communities,” Tureta said.

Similarly, the Chairman of Dange/Shuni local government council, Alhaji Aminu Magaji Bodai, called for a security camp to be stationed in the Dabagi area, citing frequent bandits’ attacks during the rainy season.

“We are tired of running away from our homes every rainy season. We need the government to take decisive action to secure our communities,” Bodai said.

The Sokoto State government’s efforts to address the security challenges and provide humanitarian support to the affected communities are ongoing.

However, residents are growing increasingly frustrated with the relentless attacks and are demanding more decisive action from the government to secure their communities.

The banditry attacks have left a trail of destruction and displacement in their wake, with many residents forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in nearby towns and cities.

The state government assured residents that it is doing everything in its power to address the security challenges and restore peace to the affected areas.
