The Lagos State Accountability Mechanism (LASAM), in collaboration with the EngenderHealth-led Consortium Partners, recently held a Two-Day Review of work plans in Lagos recently, deliberated and strategized on the importance of harmonizing ideas towards achieving quality Primary Healthcare delivery.

During the strategic meeting, the consortium partners, which include LISDEL (Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development), ISMPH (International Society for Media Public Health), and CCSI (Centre for Communication and Social Impact), expressed commitment to working closely with the Lagos state government to ensure health development in the state.

The Director of Programs for LISDEL, Oluwamuyiwa Oluwadammilola, noted the importance of the meeting was to drive accountability and advocacy for quality and increase primary healthcare delivery.

“We have been deliberating on how to drive accountability and advocacy towards increasing primary Healthcare delivery in the state and overall health outcomes in Lagos State. The conversation was robust. Important activities have been highlighted by the CSO partners and working with the government, and these activities are very key in driving accountability and, as mentioned, advocacy to the policymakers in the state to align resources and policies implementation towards improved healthcare delivery.

“So far, I see capacity, commitment, and I also see the CSO groups wanting to collaborate and work together. It shows that all the coalitions have a goal of impacting the health space in Lagos State. We are looking at harmonising all the resources together. I expect to see this coalition work more seamlessly together. We want to achieve quality results and efficiency to support the Lagos state government,” he said.

Grant and Partnership Lead for EngenderHealth, Stanley Osayi, in the same vein, also said the reason for the meeting is for review of activities and to address the lack of integration among CSOs to achieve common goals.

“In summary, it’s about how we can ensure accountability in delivering on our health indices in the state. This event is about a review of our health accountability mechanisms work plan. We are working closely with LASAM and the others, recognised by the state. We are also working as a consortium team led by Engender Health to ensure we work with the government and support them where necessary.

“The major thing here is to ensure we harmonise ideas and activities. It has been observed that there has been a lack of integration, which this strategic meeting has addressed to see that we work together as a team. It’s a three-and-a-half-year project that started in 2024. It’s an advocacy and accountability project funded by the Bill Gates Foundation,” he said.
