Huawei: Cybersecurity Will Not Be Sacrificed for Profit

Huawei has restated its firm stance on cybersecurity, declaring that protecting users’ digital safety will never be compromised in favour of commercial interests.

The assurance was given by Osita Iweze, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria and Head of Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection, during the National Cybersecurity Conference organised by NITDA in Abuja on Thursday.

In his presentation titled Building a Secure and Resilient ICT Infrastructure for Nigeria’s Digital Future, Iweze highlighted Huawei’s strategy of embedding security features directly into its products and services.

“Cybersecurity is not an afterthought at Huawei—it is a foundation. Our commitment to it outweighs all commercial considerations,” he said.
He emphasized that Cyber Security and Privacy are cornerstones of Huawei’s digital mission with network security and Privacy protection being Being key development strategy. This foundational strategy was elevated in 2018 to the highest corporate guideline.

The company invests 5% of its research and development (R&D) budget into security innovation and follows the principle: Assume nothing, Believe no one, Check everything.

Huawei also advocates for industry-wide collaboration, engaging with government bodies, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders to develop technical capabilities, share threat intelligence, and foster a secure digital environment.

It works with ecosystem partners on rule-making, capability building, and joint innovation aimed at securing Nigeria’s digital future.
He said with over 30 years of global operations, Huawei has provided secure digital infrastructure to more than 3 billion users in over 170 countries.
