Founders of SACHEM Honoured by UN-Affiliated Body for Championing Girls’ Rights, Healthcare

The founders of Save the Child Health and Empowerment Initiative (SACHEM), a nonprofit organisation committed to advancing quality healthcare, gender equality, and child empowerment, have been honoured with distinguished appointments by the Peace Ambassadors Advocacy Network (PAAN), a United Nations-affiliated organisation.

Sylvia Kamsiyochukwu Nnuekwe, a seasoned public health expert, and Dr. Constance Ogonna Egwuatu, a respected media executive and counselling specialist, received the recognition during a formal ceremony held at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The honour celebrates their unwavering dedication to empowering girls, women, and youth across Nigeria through hands-on skill development, mentorship, and the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and 5 (Gender Equality).

Reacting to the recognition, Dr. Constance described it as “both a privilege and a motivation to amplify our focus on prioritizing issues affecting women, girls, and children.” Sylvia Nnuekwe added that the honour further strengthens their capacity to tackle gender disparities and champion women’s rights and accessible healthcare. “This appointment encourages all stakeholders, especially government entities at all levels, to take concrete action,” she said.

In a virtual address delivered during the reception, Engineer Emmanuel Nnuekwe, a cloud support engineer with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a member of SACHEM’s board, highlighted the importance of equipping women and girls with artificial intelligence (AI) skills. He stated, “AI skills enable girls to move beyond being users to becoming active contributors in technology development. AI skills also help address gender disparities in tech fields and offer creative solutions for local and global challenges.”

The event drew over 500 newly appointed peace ambassadors, UN officials, and other dignitaries, reinforcing a shared commitment to safeguarding the rights of women and girls and eliminating discrimination and injustice from society.
