Senator Ohere Celebrates Yahaya Bello as Ogidi Honours Former Governor with Democracy Award
The 2025 Ogidi Day Cultural Festival held in Ogidi, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was a vibrant display of tradition, unity, and honour — drawing dignitaries, traditional rulers, and citizens from across the state and beyond.
One of the high points of the celebration was the conferment of the “Legend of Resourceful Democracy Award” on former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, in recognition of his enduring contributions to good governance, democratic advancement, and grassroots development during his time as Governor of Kogi State.
Joining in the celebration was Distinguished Senator Ohere Sadiku Abubakar, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, who warmly congratulated Yahaya Bello for the honour bestowed on him by the people of Ogidi.
“This award is a well-deserved recognition of Governor Yahaya Bello’s remarkable leadership and commitment to building an inclusive and progressive Kogi State. As someone who has worked closely with him, I can attest to his tireless dedication to the people,” Senator Ohere said.
Senator Ohere, who holds the traditional title of Gbamiboye of Ogidi Land, further praised the community for acknowledging leadership that serves with vision and compassion.
The title of Gbamiboye, meaning pillar of support and progress, was conferred on Senator Ohere years ago by the Ologidi of Ogidi, HRH Oba Rabiu Oladimeji Sule, during his tenure as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Kogi State. The Senator was specially acknowledged at this year’s festival for his consistent support to Ogidi and its traditional institution.
“Ogidi holds a special place in my heart. I was privileged to receive the Gbamiboye title from a revered monarch, HRH Oba Rabiu Oladimeji Sule, a first-class traditional ruler with whom I had a strong and respectful working relationship while serving as Commissioner. It is fulfilling to return to this soil and witness the honouring of another great son of Kogi,” he added.
The Ologidi of Ogidi, in his remarks, praised both Yahaya Bello and Senator Ohere for their significant roles in promoting community development, cultural preservation, and responsible leadership.
“We do not forget those who serve with sincerity. This award to Governor Bello is an expression of our appreciation for his leadership, and we continue to value Senator Ohere for the legacy he has built with us,” the monarch stated.
Former Governor Bello, visibly moved by the recognition, thanked the people of Ogidi for the honour and pledged his continued support for the development of the community and other parts of Kogi State.
“Leadership is about serving the people with purpose and humility. This recognition by Ogidi means a great deal to me, and I remain committed to promoting peace, unity, and development,” he said.
The 2025 Ogidi Day featured traditional dances, masquerade performances, art exhibitions, and communal feasting. It also served as a cultural homecoming for sons and daughters of the land, reinforcing Ogidi’s identity as a proud and forward-looking community.
The presence of dignitaries such as Senator Ohere and Yahaya Bello added colour and prestige to the event, making it one of the most memorable editions in recent years.
