Veteran Broadcaster and President, Urhobo Leadership Forum, Abuja,
Olorogun (Dr ) Peter Igho( MFR), has described one of the founding fathers of Nigerian Journalism and Publisher of the Vanguard Newspapers, Pa Sam Amuka as an industry Torch Bearer with a lot of accomplishments.

In a congratulatory letter personally signed by the ace broadcaster, to facilitate with Amuka on his 90th birthday, he stated emphatically that the Vanguard publisher represents an important niche in Nigeria‘s popular journalism.

He said, “Amuka belongs to the vanguard of writers who attained professional maturation in the years immediately before independence . Sam Amuka like others in the group were well able to place our emerging leaders and nationalists under great scrutiny.

“But Sam Amuka was unique in the exuberance and humour with which he deployed his polemics . He caused laughter but also made reform inevitable. Sad Sam , long became a household name before founding the Vanguard . There are few journalists living or dead who have been able to produce the quality and endurance of Amuka’s journalism.”

“Sam Amuka, even while he dwelt on grave issues , retained his uncanny sense of humour. Spectacularly, his personal and social life have reflected his hyphenated ethnic derivation which have made him proud of his Urhobo and Itsekiri heritages. This calm duality recommends him as a healing hand for some of the ethnic dissension which rile the Delta homeland.
We are more than happy to walk in his shadows and to wish him a wondrous and hilarious happy birthday.” Igho stated.
