As state governors that won fresh elections or got renewed mandates in 2023 mark their midterm in office, the Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has expressed satisfaction with the scorecards of the party’s governors.

Senator Wabara gave high marks to the PDP governors in a statement he issued made available to the media in Umuahia, saying that PDP remains proud of the state chief executives elected on its platform.

He singled out the PDP governors for high commendations, noting that the last two of their various administrations have been “impactful” having posted remarkable achievements across various sectors of the economy.

Wabara cited “the superlative scorecards” posted by the PDP governors, including Peter Mbah of Enugu, Bala Mohammed, Bauchi, Dauda Lawal, Zamfara, Seyi Makinde, Oyo, Ahmadu Fintiri, Adamawa, Ademola Adeleke, Osun, as well as the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

He stated that the PDP governors have demonstrated “capacity, competence, and inclusivity – key values that have always distinguished PDP from other parties”.

According to him, the governors have been resilient and not allowed “the harsh economic climate occasioned by the bad policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government” at the centre” to weigh them down.

The former Senate President showcased his party’s governors, noting that they “are alive and thriving” with demonstrable evidence in their respective states that people are experiencing good governance.

“I’m very proud of the impressive reports of the midterm scorecard of our various governors. They have rekindled the hope of the people by performing creditably despite the miserable state of our economy due to the ill-advised policies of the APC-led federal government.

“This is a testament that with PDP in charge, Nigeria will be great again. All hope is not lost,” he said.

Citing “the superlative scorecard” of Governor Mbah, the PDP BoT Chairman said he was delighted to know that the same good news was coming from the other states controlled by Nigeria’s former ruling party.

He noted that the Enugu governor deserved every accolade being showered on him “for setting the bar so high in key sectors of the economy such as education, health care, infrastructure, industry, high-tech, agriculture, among others.”

Wabara further praised Mbah for his “visionary leadership, lofty dreams and approach to governance” that have placed Enugu as “a leading economy in the South-east, and a model of excellence in the country.”

He stated that in every zone in Nigeria PDP governors are holding their own, adding that their “identifiable achievements cannot be controverted” hence they have not disappointed the people that gave them mandates.

In the North-east, Wabara said that the Bauchi State Governor, who is the Chairman of PDP Governors Forum, has sustained “evidence of performance” leaving footprints on the sands of key sectors, notably  “infrastructure, agriculture and human capital development”.

He pointed out that even in states with security challenges, PDP governors have remained undaunted, citing Dauda Lawal and Ahmadu Fintiri of Zamfara and Adamawa, respectively, have risen above their challenges and posted impressive performances.

Turning Westwards, the PDP BoT Chairman described Governor Makinde of Oyo as “an ambassador of good governance” while in neighbouring Osun State, he said that Governor Adeleke has kept faith with his covenant with the people.

He expressed confidence that Adeleke would have his mandate renewed as his works are already testifying not only for him, but also for his party that gave Osun people a governor after their hearts.

Despite the ongoing travails of Governor Fubara, Wabara described him as “a hero of democracy”, adding that he had already made his mark in infrastructure development before his political persecution ensued.
