ACS Nigeria Celebrates a Decade of Scientific Excellence

The American Chemical Society (ACS), Nigeria International Chemical Sciences Chapter, has commemorated its 10th anniversary with a symposium themed ‘Advancing Sustainability through AI-Driven Chemistry’.
The four-day event, held at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, brought together leading scientists, policymakers and innovators to explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence in shaping a sustainable future through chemistry.
Prof. Edu Inam, Chairman of ACS Nigeria, reflected on the chapter’s achievements over the past decade and noted the timeliness of this year’s theme and the potential of AI-driven chemistry to address pressing global challenges.
The symposium featured keynote lectures, presentations, and discussions on topics that included the intersection of AI and chemistry, as well as the role of innovation in driving sustainable development.
The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, who attended the event, announced the federal government’s programme to train 200,000 Nigerians in AI and emerging technologies.
The event marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s scientific journey, showcasing the potential of AI-driven chemistry to drive sustainable innovation and societal benefit.
