The drive for a more environmentally sustainable Nigeria and Africa has given rise to a new generation of professional cleaners committed to standardizing their industry.

This vision took a significant step forward with the official unveiling of the Prime Environment Cleaners Network Association (PECNA), also known as The Cleaners Network Association, in Abuja.

The event, attended by industry stakeholders from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, brought professional cleaners together under one umbrella to enhance industry standards, promote best practices, and advocate for environmental sustainability in cleaning services.

The Special Guest of Honour, Dr. Yakubu Mohammed Baba (SAN), Registrar of the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON), who was represented by Obitolu Olusegun Stephen of the EHCON Department of Licensing, emphasized the critical role of professional cleaners in ensuring public health and environmental safety. “A well-structured and standardized cleaning industry is essential for the health of our communities. PECNA’s establishment signals a new era of professionalism and accountability in this field,” he stated.

Alhaji Ibrahim Babayo, Managing Director of Cosmopolitan Cleaners, who was represented by Mr. Alawode Taiwo Ayodele, delivered the keynote address, underscoring the importance of collaboration and industry regulation. “Cleaning services are no longer just about tidiness; they are an integral part of public health, sanitation, and environmental conservation. This association will serve as a vehicle for innovation, compliance, and excellence,” he noted.

PECNA’s launch signifies a major shift in Nigeria’s cleaning sector, with a focus on capacity building, certification, and adherence to international best practices. By bringing together leading cleaning companies, the association aims to drive quality assurance and provide a platform for industry players to share knowledge and resources.

The association also released its official list of recognized members for 2025, featuring 100 professional cleaning companies across the country. These members represent a diverse range of services, including residential and commercial cleaning, industrial sanitation, and eco-friendly cleaning solutions.

As Nigeria faces growing environmental challenges, PECNA’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for policies that promote sustainability within the industry. The association’s objectives align with global climate action goals, aiming to reduce pollution through responsible cleaning practices.

With strong institutional backing and widespread industry participation, PECNA is poised to elevate the cleaning profession, ensuring that service providers meet high ethical and operational standards.

The unveiling event concluded with a renewed call for industry players to embrace innovation, uphold professionalism, and work collectively towards a cleaner and healthier Nigeria.
