Seyyicodes Summons a Sonic Awakening on Vuka
By Emmanuel Daraloye
Released on November 8, 2024, Vuka means wake up in Zulu. But this isn’t just a track. It is a call to presence. It’s what happens when a producer stops chasing trends and starts building temples from sound. Clocking in at six minutes and fourteen seconds, the self-composed single by SEYYICODES is an electronic dance meditation that pulses with structure, restraint, and raw intention. No lyrics. No shortcuts. Just vibe.
SEYYICODES is no stranger to shaping musical landscapes. In 2022, he dropped Echoes of Peace, a five-minute and twenty-two-second instrumental that hinted at his gift for atmosphere and mood. It was a quieter, meditative track, briefly showcasing his ability to build emotion without words. He followed that with co-production work on Magician, the standout closer from DJ Wallace’s A Decade EP, a track bursting with bounce, intent, and the freewheeling verve of Afrobeats drill fusion. In July, he co-produced two tracks on ”I’m in Paris, and I Miss You,” EP by Paparazzle, adding another layer to his growing catalogue of textured, emotionally intelligent soundscapes. On Vuka, he shifts into something more elemental. Something spiritual.
From the moment the track begins, Vuka builds like a sunrise. The drums lay the groundwork, clean, deliberate, and precise, inviting the listener into a slowly unfurling rhythm. The snare adds tension, gently coaxing attention without overwhelming. There’s patience here. Vuka doesn’t rush to the drop or seduce with instant gratification. It trusts its journey. It makes you wait.
A full minute in, the keyboard finally arrives, as a companion. The piano chords are subtle, brushed into the mix with care, blending seamlessly into the percussive groove already in motion. This isn’t a beat for dancers. It’s a beat for believers; every sound feels earned. Then comes the log drum, that signature bounce of Amapiano’s sonic DNA, tucked into the background like a heartbeat. Just when you start to settle into the rhythm, a curious vocal texture rolls in. A tongue-rolled hype sound, void of language but full of spirit. It enchants.
At exactly the three-minute mark, the piano disappears. The drums and snares remain, exposed and confident, like a house with its doors open. And in that pause, between melody and memory, the track breathes. It isn’t until the fourth minute that everything returns in full force, layered and luminous. The reentry doesn’t feel like a climax. It feels like a resurrection.
What Vuka accomplishes in just over six minutes is quietly impactful. It invites the listener to slow down and take in the details. SEYYICODES leans into silence, movement, and atmosphere, letting each element breathe. You can picture this track closing a late-night DJ set in Berlin or echoing through the ears of a runner chasing clarity at dawn.
Released under Codes Entertainment Ltd., Vuka signals a producer leaning further into selfhood. There’s no need to impress. Only the urge to express. And that’s a mark of growth. This isn’t SEYYICODES trying to prove he belongs. It’s him proving he’s already here.
In a way, Vuka builds on everything that came before: from the calm of Echoes of Peace to the flair of Magician, where one whispered and the other danced, this one wakes you up, not with noise, but with nuance.
