From a small town in Volta Region to international stages, Demzy Baye’s journey is redefining Ghanaian dance culture.
Demzy Baye, born Derrick Asare Agyepong on May 19, 1997, has become one of Ghana’s most celebrated dancers. Known for his creativity and versatility, the dancer, choreographer, and instructor has turned passion into global recognition.
Though he graduated as a nurse in 2019, Demzy left behind a stable profession to pursue his true calling: dance. His gamble paid off in 2018 when he joined Dance With a Purpose (DWP) Academy after winning the Wosa Dance Challenge. At DWP, his creativity flourished and gave birth to the Baye Dance Step, a move that went viral and established his brand.
“Dance was never just a hobby, it was who I am,” Demzy often says of his journey.
The Baye Dance Step became a sensation, amplified by his Kings of Dance Challenges, which included viral routines like Yeshua and Darling Jesus. His popularity quickly spread beyond Ghana.
Demzy has since starred in Beyoncé’s Already video and performed at major events like 3Music Awards, TGMA, and the Global Citizen Festival 2023 with Usher. His impact has stretched into collaborations with Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Gyakie.
For fans, known as LMF Citizens, Demzy is more than a dancer. He is a leader and community builder, celebrated as the LMF President.
His journey from Anfoegã Akukume to global stages proves that passion, when embraced, can turn dreams into legacies.
