DESIGNED TO EMPOWER: FASAMI’S CLOTHES FOR THE EVERYDAY BOLD WOMAN

Fasami strives for women’s empowerment beyond stitching apparel.

For far too long, the fashion industry has been shaped by certain kinds of wear that aren’t suitable for all women. But as time went on, there was a shift. And what is that shift? New concepts that challenge the trend are rising, and it is redefining luxury fashion even with the most ordinary woman in mind.

This is exactly what Fasami’s brand clings to.

The inspiration behind Fasami’s designs isn’t merely to impress anyone with his tailoring skills. Far from it. It is to help women feel strong, clear, and unafraid of standing out. It would never overwhelm anyone with excess or chase passing trends. Instead, the brand builds clothing that speaks with calmness and confidence. In addition to what the brand is known for, they make their dresses with precision, and every stitch is made with intention and purpose.

The fashion company was founded by Kayode Matthew Fasami in Lagos. He began with a simple idea: clothes should work for real women. It shouldn’t only focus on looks, but how they feel. And guess what? Over the years, the brand has consistently shown true creativity and innovation. And all these were pulled within a short period.

They design pieces that move with the body, allow comfort without sacrificing style, and carry women through different parts of their day. They also craft outfits and create an attractive outlook that moves wearers of the clothes from a quiet morning to an event at night, without making them become someone else along the way. And that’s what makes the brand.

Fasami focuses on shape, details, and how the attire makes the wearer feel. The silhouettes are clean but not rigid, and his choice of fabrics is intentional. The team of designers might sew one or two sleeves in a way that adds structure to the look but still allows easy movement. A neckline might be low but not in a loud form. Therefore, these are small choices that the designer made to make the brand uniquely stand out, building up to a brand that every woman respects and wants to be associated with.

This respect shows in how the clothes are made. Fasami follows a made-to-order process where each cut is sewn one at a time in their Lagos studio. This process is slow and a careful system where there is no rush to overproduce, and there is no pressure to flood the market with endless options. They focus on making each piece unique. Right from the fabric’s texture to the strength of the seams, the designer ensured that all of them are done right. That kind of control allows Fasami to keep waste low, support local textile workers, and build lasting clothing.

Wearing Fasami doesn’t mean putting on a costume, but choosing clothes that support who you are already. The brand gives space to express that without pushing a fixed identity on any woman who chooses to be affiliated with Fasami’s brand. Hence, this is beyond fashion or aligning designs with the latest trends.

It is about the designer knowing the job and producing excellent designs. It’s about supporting the community with inventive items, not overwhelming them with mediocre clothes. And women love to be associated with such a brand.

Now, let’s see what Fasami offers in this 2024 collection, from the fit to everything in between. We’re going to be reviewing them one after the other. Come along and let’s dive right into it.
The dress is a combination of a deep blue structured peplum with a light blue fitted skirt that ends in a ruffled hem. The top has its fittings around the waist before flaring at the hips. The designer designed the peplum to be dramatic, such that it creates a sculpted shape of the wearer. Another thing to notice about this outfit is the fabric. The top’s fabric has a light shine that gives the dress a corporate feel. The bottom half has this soft, matte feel that pops next to the shiny top, giving the outfit some texture without trying too hard.

The short sleeves are the right call. They match the clean tailoring and keep things light. Long sleeves would’ve been too much, especially with the flare at the top and how relaxed the skirt is. And the colours are two different blues. They’re not the exact same, but they vibe together. Just enough contrast to make it interesting without clashing.

While the darker blue of the top signifies strength, the skirt’s colour softens the look. The designer made it to fit the corporate setting, where the wearer can put on simple shoes and simple makeup, because the dress already has strong details. Nevertheless, the model’s pointed heel shoe is also a good choice.

However, no one is without mistakes; everything is a work in progress. The substantial volume of the peplum is heavy, especially for someone who is short or has a smaller body size. The dress is capable of drawing attention to your side, which may not go well for many women.

Recommendation: To make this design more flexible or soft, a straight-cut skirt could be considered for future versions. That way, women who prefer less volume can also enjoy the look. Offering a version without the ruffled hem may make it easier to wear for different occasions.

The dress is best for bold settings, formal parties, fashion events, or shoots. It’s stylish and made with care, but it’s not for casual outings. It suits someone who enjoys wearing something different and doesn’t mind standing out.

This second look at the 2024 collection is a maxi full-length gown with very large balloon sleeves. The neckline is high and wraps around the neck, and a chest cutout adds some openness and style to the dress. The waist slightly cinches, which shapes the body and stops the dress from looking big.

The fabric looks soft but structured enough to carry the large sleeves. The butterfly print is bold and attractive, because the space between the prints will not let the dress feel messy. In other words, the colourful mixture of different prints with different colours makes it more stylish and easier to style. The sleeves are the point of attention. They are full and gathered but stop at the wrist, so they don’t drag.

The chest cutout is wide and goes with the outlook of the rest of the dress.

But not everyone would be comfortable with the cutout. It reveals a part of the chest, which can feel too open depending on the event or the wearer’s preference. The sleeve volume can also be hard to manage. It may be difficult to add a blazer or styling, or carry a bag easily. The sleeveless might be too big for petite women.

Recommendation: Offering a version with a smaller or higher cut-out would make the design more wearable. It could also help to reduce the sleeve width slightly so that the dress is easier to move around in. These changes would keep the look strong but make it more practical. This dress is ideal for formal day events like weddings or shows. It has presence and personality but needs the right setting and confidence to carry it well. It’s best for women who are comfortable with volume and enjoy bold print.

This monochromatic look? It grabs attention fast. This lilac fabric is soft and calm but still has that “I’m here” energy. The satin is the real deal. Super smooth, high-shine, and the way it moves is mind-blowing. The whole look pops, giving off that luxe vibe without even trying too hard. But here’s the catch: satin like this is kind of high maintenance. One wrong move and it’s wrinkled, snagged, or stained.

While it looks good, it needs to be handled with care.

Now let’s talk about the neckline. It’s off-shoulder, super flattering, and shows just enough without doing the most. What makes it hit is the oversized ruffles around the bust and shoulders. It’s giving drama, but in a good way. Not over-the-top, but enough to turn heads. And it holds its shape too, on which days either the fabric’s got some weight, or it was constructed with real skill.

The top ends right at the waist, which is perfect if you’re pairing it with high-rise pants. Keeps the proportions clean and adds that Gen Z-approved cropped edge.

Also, the ruffle? Not just for the vibes. It balances out the wide-leg trousers. Those pants have volume. But the top even it out, so the whole fit looks intentional.

The trousers are high-waisted, so they cinch the waist and make the legs look longer, a win. The cut is somewhere between palazzo and culottes, depending on your height. They hit around mid-calf, which works because it shows off your shoes and doesn’t swallow your frame.

Above all, it is a standout look. A little extra, but in the best way, stylish and glamorous.

Recommendation: While the choice of a luxurious material is powerful, the designer could take a close look at how the top and trousers fit. A longer length could make the stylish off-shoulder top better and more appealing. And to the wearer, minimal accessories will suffice. Since the fabric is a shiny one, you don’t need to overpower the natural glam the material has provided. Just flow in it and glow like you’ve never even imagined.

Fasami’s 2024 collection is dope. It is such that pictures don’t do justice to it. Customers can say for a fact that the designer created this collection with intentionality and focus. There was so much he expected from the designs, and he was able to pull it off. It is safe to say that we are pleased with this year’s release, and we are already on the edge of our seats as we anticipate next year’s release.
