A Review on Lola Threads 2024 Collection
By Tosin Clegg
In an era where fast fashion often drowns individuality, Lola Threads challenges the status quo, redefining the art of dressing. True fashion can—and should—uplift lives. Every collection launched from the fashion house embodies this ethos, born from the place of self-expression.
Since its inception in Lagos in 2019, Lola Threads has defied convention and celebrates its identity under the leadership of the innovative founder, Ayobami Ololade Ogunbiyi. Her passion was fueled by African crafts and green innovation.

Lola Threads is more than just a women’s wear label—it is a movement. Ayobami believes that clothing must be fluid, unbound by size or expectation, and capable of honouring every woman’s unique power. Every piece tells a story of resilience, self-expression, and sustainability.
The brand is heavy on slow fashion: one that forgets about trends but prioritises high-quality pieces to make the modern woman bold and unique. This is an invitation to join the community of women who dress with intention and embrace their unique personalities.
This particular outfit stands out for its intentional craftsmanship in the 2024 collection, reflecting elegance and modern class. The piece, featuring a lush pink gown, is a harmony of structure with movement and restraint with drama. At first look, the gown whispers simplicity, but this is far from it. It flows with quiet confidence from the neckline to the lower part.
The choice of lush pink—neither saccharine nor too bold—is a masterstroke. It balances the gown’s dual nature: soft yet strong, refined yet unafraid. The armless design opens up the shoulders, complementing and creating the perfect frame for the neckline. Together, they make a statement: one of a woman who understands delicacy as a form of strength.
The neckline is unconventional; it’s a daring, creative, and geometrical cut. However, while the concept is striking, it could do better with its depth and spacing. The designer could incorporate a slanting strap, a slit, or a dip in the shoulder line. This would harmonise the neckline and the armless shoulders.
Now, to the eye-catching feature of the piece—the lower bodice. The gown stays fitted as it transitions into the lower part, which blooms outward with its folded layers. Each layers show intentional and detailed craftsmanship. The first layer folds beautifully into the second, in texture and volume, without overcomplicating the silhouette. Even as the gown’s movement looks restrained, it still maintains its shape while offering movement.
The gown isn’t just made for the ballroom but for the woman who brings the ballroom wherever she goes.
The view offers a lens into the back of the same lush-pink ensemble. The gown is held by a zipper, perfecting the fitted structure of the silhouette. The folded layers at the base of the bodice, flaring softly, are visually appealing.
Yet, for all its beauty, there are still grounds that need to be considered to transform the overall feel of the piece. The folded flares, though lovely, might add unnecessary bulk to the wearer, depending on their body type. However, their success relies on the choice of fabric. Lola Threads could consider the fabric: it must not be too stiff, the outfit might look boxy, and it must not be too light, or it would lose structure.
Altogether, the gown’s design is a masterpiece of art, a masterclass in balance, where structure meets softness, modernity meets culture. This lush pink dress is more than just clothing; it is a dialogue. It speaks that being feminine doesn’t mean being fragile. And pink does not mean passive.
This is another pink combination from the Lola Threads 2024 collection. The brand creates magic with the colour pink. The top’s sleeve alone is enough to steal a scene — sculptural, bold, and confident. It is the way the sleeves are theatrical, holding their shape; the way they feel like a statement of intent, as though the wearer is walking into purpose, artistry, and quiet power. This magic is not missing in the rest of the piece either. Lola Threads deserves its flowers.
The top buttoned up to the collar, exudes a kind of classy elegance. The collar is padded, and the attention to tailoring — from the curve of the seams to the accuracy of the cut — is impossible to ignore. Its cropped length, neatly ending just above the waistline, is intentional, making way for a pairing that turns the look into a complete story: the trousers.
The trousers — in a warm, unexpected shade of pink — provide a gentle contrast to the firm authority of the top. They are relaxed in movement but not careless in structure. The fabric glides, yet the fit is unmistakably clean. Stopping right at the toes, they maintain sharpness, creating a silhouette that hints at rebellion within refinement. There’s a quiet sense of play — the trousers breathe while the top grounds. The duality works.
That said, while the outfit hits impressive notes, the designer might consider further enhancements that could elevate the piece from striking to iconic. The cropped top, though powerful, may not flatter all body types. An option with an adjustable hem — maybe one with a drawstring or hidden zip to modify length — would add inclusivity without compromising the design. Additionally, the trousers, although beautifully fluid, may need subtle reinforcements at the hem to prevent early wear from friction against the ground, especially when worn with flat shoes or open footwear.
Ultimately, this piece is a confident dance between strength and softness — a wearable art form with room to evolve. With small refinements in practicality and adaptability, it could become a signature staple for the bold yet thoughtful dresser.
The side view offers a look at the other part of the piece. Here, the top’s sleeve is magical. Standing firmly on the wearer’s shoulders, they add a contemporary edge to the piece. But while the design is stunning, a softer inner lining might make the piece more breathable for longer wear, especially in warmer climates. Also, the padding at the collar, though a statement, might benefit from softer interfacing; comfort should never be sacrificed for structure.
The trousers with the side pockets, crafted out of the top’s fabric, are a thoughtful addition. The way they are placed vertically opposite makes the piece creative and practical. However, the function is quite questionable; do they act as a decorative element or more? A side pocket should be functional above others.
And when we think it is over, Lola Threads decides to stun its wearer again. Just at the base of the trousers, the view shows another attractive feature. They are also placed vertically next to each other—one at the tip and the other at the top of the trousers. The creative team deserves an accolade. This ensemble is a striking reminder of what fashion can do — command attention while still listening to comfort and function.
This is another pink combination from the 2024 combination. Whoever thought that pink couldn’t be paired to get a powerful look, Lola Threads defies that notion. The piece combines a skirt of a deeper shade of pink with a white top.
The top makes its entrance not with noise but with presence. It is cropped, yes, but not in a way that feels abrupt or incomplete. Instead, it is banded neatly at the waist, holding its ground with quiet confidence. However, the banded part of the top might feel restrictive for longer wear. Maybe a slightly stretchable or adjustable band could resolve this, offering a tailored fit without rigidity. Then the sleeves add a contrast, long and move with an airy softness, offering movement and lightness, only to be cinched tightly at the wrists.
Then there’s the neckline. It begins with a conventional shirt collar, structured and clean, but then surprises with a subtle v-neck extension and a narrow slit down the chest. This slit adds breath, allure, and just enough exposure to break away from convention without veering into discomfort. But the V-slit neckline, while tastefully revealing, might benefit from a small, hidden hook or closure for wearers who prefer modesty without losing the design’s flow.
The skirt, though banded at the waist, tucks just under the top. It stretches from just above the knees to the floor, creating a vertical line that elongates and empowers. But this isn’t your typical long skirt. Inside, it is fitted, contouring the body, hinting at strength and poise. Yet, at the hem, it releases, giving way to a soft flare that flutters with each step. Over this inner structure is a wrapped design, designed with a series of folds that sweep from the waist down to the back like gentle waves. The layering is meticulous, building dimension and intrigue.
The back view of the piece reveals the zipper added to the skirt. However, the skirt, with its inner fitted portion, though compelling, may ride up or lose comfort during motion; Lola threads could try adding a breathable, stretch lining or side slit could enhance wearability without disrupting its form. Lastly, the folds — a gorgeous feature — should be carefully constructed with a lining or reinforcement to avoid sagging over time, especially with frequent wear.
In all, this is a piece for the bold, for the thinker, for the one who commands attention not by shouting but by walking into a room as if they belong there — because they do. With a few thoughtful tweaks, the design could become a timeless expression of refined rebellion and tailored creativity.
The 2024 collection, Lola Threads, showcases a dialogue between culture and the future. The brand partners with local artisans whose skills bring every print, pleat, and stitch to life. From the sewing machines to the wardrobe, every step is measured, mindful, and rooted in respect.
