Kidpreneur Africa, Access Bank Take Savings Awareness Campaign to Secondary Schools

Kidpreneur Africa, in collaboration with Access Bank, is carrying out a savings awareness campaign in selected secondary schools in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja to sensitise students on the importance of savings.
According to the partners, the savings awareness campaign is in commemoration of World Savings Day celebrated every October 31st.
The World Savings Day 2023, whose central message is “Conquer your Tomorrow” through savings is celebrated to focus on the importance of money savings by individuals for the future.
The Founder and Executive Director of Kidpreneur Africa, Juliet Vincent-Obi, noted that they are partnering with Access Bank for the awareness campaign because World Savings Day is associated with money matters and financial institutions.
“Through a world day like this, Kidpreneur Africa and Access Bank seek to instil in young Nigerians the culture of savings and further drive financial inclusion for the betterment of our world,” she said.
Vincent-Obi noted that because of uncertainties and unforeseen circumstances – or for retirement, education, property purchase, marriage, among others − saving is encouraged, even if one has no urgent plans for the money.
Commenting on behalf of the bank, Head of Group Sustainability at Access Holdings PLC, Omobolanle Victor-Laniyan, stated that World Savings Day is an occasion for them to champion financial responsibility and empower the younger generation with the knowledge and tools to secure their financial future.
She added that their partnership with Kidpreneur Africa is a testament to their commitment to nurturing a culture of savings from an early age.
“By equipping young Nigerians with financial literacy, we are laying the foundation for a more financially inclusive and prosperous future,” Victor-Laniyan said.
The Project Coordinator of Kidpreneur Africa, Omobolanle Afolabi, stated that creating awareness about the importance of saving will help young children to be intentional about building their future.
Afolabi further stated that, in the course of the project, students and children will learn how to delay gratifications.
She added that by making the saving culture a part of them, children and young people can save for their future and contribute to the economy.
“This will be an ongoing conversation. Parents should continue to speak to their children about these matters and ensure they are achieving their saving goals,” Afolabi said.
However, Vincent-Obi stated that, in the course of the campaign, the students would be taught basic financial literacy tips and how to save small funds which will encourage them to develop the habit of saving.
She further stated that there would be a free webinar for children aged 5 – 15 years, adding that the webinar will be a flag off of the 30-day Savings Challenge aimed at increasing public awareness on the importance of savings for households and the national economy.
Furthermore, during the campaign, there will also be World Savings Day quizzes and games, and also cash prizes to be won.
