The Fame Foundation and the French Embassy in Nigeria are working together to prepare Nigerian breakdancers from different states, aiming to choose two finalists to participate at an international breakdance competition in France.

The Executive Director of Fame Foundation, Aderonke Ogunleye-Bello, emphasized that this initiative aims to raise awareness about breakdancing as a new sport in Nigeria, aligning it with their empowerment program.

She explained that the competition has already taken place in several states, including Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

Aderonke added that the grand finale is scheduled to happen in Lagos in November, with approximately 30 finalists from nine different states competing.

She noted, “ The program intends to empower youth through sports as part of the Play it Dream it Initiative, fostering inclusion and teaching valuable life skills, particularly to underserved and economically disadvantaged young people.

“ Notably, two overall winners, one male and one female, will earn sponsorship to participate in an international breakdance championship in the following year.”

The French Ambassador to Nigeria, Emmanuelle Blatmann, on her part expressed admiration for the enthusiasm generated by the competition among Nigerians.

She praised the creativity and talent of Nigerian dancers and highlighted the unifying and transformative power of breakdancing as a sport.

She explained that the competition features young dancers showcasing their skills and creativity, ultimately vying for the prestigious title.

Dance, she added, is not only deeply ingrained in Nigerian culture but also contributes significantly to the nation’s economy and core values.
