Mr. Vonnn & Zichy Strike Up Fantastic Collaboration on new track “Corny”

Two decades in, Afrobeats continues to get strong, the chart topping songs are numerous, concert and stadium appearances are on the rise. The sound has never been this lucky. The musicians and producer remain the key players in all of these, they have made their mark with them leveraging on each other’s strength to get records.

There has been the typical Artiste and producer collaboration that has stood the test of time in the music industry, sometimes, they are just one off collaboration or infrequent collaboration, what is noticeable is that such an artiste finds his mojo whenever he or she meets the producer.

In the 2010s, there was Olamide and Pheelz, Davido and Chizzy, Wizkid and Sarz , Dtunes and Sean Tizzle, the list is endless. Finding the right chemistry doesn’t come easy, it takes some balancing, some tweaking and experimenting, for the lucky one who might have gotten it, they are always glad.

In the 2020s, there have been few pairs like this, a producer and artistes making laudable records, we have Rema and Ozedikuz, Fireboy and Pheelz, Zichy and Mr.Vonnn. The latter whose new collaboration titled “Corny,” is a fantastic record that finds both of them making things work with their sonic dexterity. The song was released on May 26, 2023 under Chili Worldwide.

Mr. Vonnn whose real name is Fifunmi Vaughan Samuel has worked with Afrobeats legends like Zugo, Martinsfeelz, Cblack, Davido and more. The graduate of Houdegbe North American University , Benin Republic has been a music producer for more than a decade.

On this song, Zichy operates on two language basis , he flits between English and Pidgin language, he profusely sings his heart out, clamoring for affection from his better half yet he keeps the message simple and relatable. Corny gets repeated, it is a cry for help, the one you make as a form of warning before things go down south. The multiplying setup of the instrumental of this song makes it a hard nut to crack. Mr. Vonnn created the instrumental in layers, this way, he makes the logdrum , baseline , synth to shine off. The mild backup singers on this song also added flavour to the song.

The two verses on this song are compartmentalized to form different topics, his first verse earnest request for affection, on the second verse, Zichy showers encomium on the girl, he is less beggy, perhaps, he has finally won over the lover of his life. The complexity of this song would always be hard for an unskillful artist to pivot, on this song, Zichy brings his wealth of sonic experience as he maneuvers and triumphs.

At two minutes, thirty three seconds mark, Zichy and Mr Vonnn seems to have struck up a fantastic collaboration, they seem to know each other well. With more sonic releases, genre experimental and others, there is no doubt that they will be here for a long.
