Rotary Restates Commitment to Serving Humanity

The Rotary International District 9110 through its foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian works, thus sought for support from well-meaning Nigerians.
The District Governor, Rotarian Remi Bello, declared this during the Rotary Foundation Annual Dinner ceremony that was held in Lagos recently.
Speaking at the well attended event, Bello expressed worries on the alarming and increasing poverty level in the country and urged individuals to support the government’s effort in lifting the society.
Quoting a report by Nigerian National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, Bello said,”up to 40 per cent or 83 million Nigerians lived in poverty in 2020. It has also been estimated that the number of poor people in the country will increase to 90 million, or 45 per cent of the population by 2022.”
He explained that apart from merriment, the dinner was put together to raise new funds for the present and future projects of the foundation.
The District Governor specially commended members of the club who have supported the foundation in various capacities and ensured that it lived to expectations.
He said , “I want to specially thank those who have kept this foundation going and living particularly Rotarian Edward Ojobo, the President nominee of Rotary Club of Gowon Estate who has also just joined the Elite Group of rotary foundation. I will implore us all to always respond to the cause for humanitarian support towards the development of the society.
Also speaking, a past District Governor, Rotarian Ijeoma Okoro reiterated that the Rotary Foundation is one of the major non-governmental organisations globally that is committed to assisting the less-privileged in the society and promoting peace among ethnic nationalities.
Also in attendance were Chairman of Premier Lotto, Sir Kesington Adebutu and Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Eng. Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, among other dignitaries.
