Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has written to the Nigerian Telecommunications Commission (NCC) requesting it to restore telephone services to 10 of the 17 local government areas affected by the ban, which came into force about four months ago.

The Director General of Media to Governor Masari, Abdu Labaran Malumfashi, disclosed this Friday in a statement issued to THISDAY.

He listed the 10 affected local government areas as Kurfi, Dutsinma, Matazu, Musawa, Malumfashi, Dandume, Bakori, Funtua, Kafur and Danja.

Others not affected by the planned restoration of the telecommunications services, he said, were Faskari, Sabuwa, Batsari, Safana, Kankara, Danmusa and Jibia.

He explained that the decision by the government to suspend the ban in the 10 local government areas was as a result of the return to near normalcy, even as efforts have remained on the front burner to ensure maximum return of peace in every part of the state.

Governor Masari had on August 31, 2021, signed the Security Containment Order suspending telecommunications services in 17 out of 34 local governments of the state.

The order also prohibited the use of some roads in the affected local government areas, as well as the transportation of firewood, sale of animals, motorcycles and closure of some markets.

It equally restricts the use of commercial motorcycles and tricycles from 10.00pm to 5.30am throughout the state, among other notable measures.
