Benny Peters’ Love for Humanity
HIGHLIFE
It is the 21st Century of man’s recorded history. The times have changed as the earth and humanity have gone through amazing eras of refinement and modernity. However, something remains unchanged, and that is the human heart. Sometimes, it cares for itself and nobody else. Other times, it goes out of its way to comfort, reconcile and restore others to health and good fortune. This is the narrative between the founder of Aiteo Group, Nigeria’s largest indigenous oil-producing firm, Benedict ‘Benny’ Peters, and the little-known Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Since the beginning of November 2021, folks have raised alarm over the fact that a non-producing wellhead in Nembe LGA has been leaking and gushing its contents all over the place. Expectedly, there was some delay over who will be the first to help the residents and fix the problem. Thankfully, Peters’ company has taken this step and gotten other influential companies to join him in cleaning up the mess.
According to reports, Aiteo reacted immediately to the problem of the leaking wellhead. However, this was largely unknown to most people because the company had resorted to working underground first, collecting information, alerting regulatory agencies, and mobilising their resources to contain the problem.
Recognising that the spillage could potentially devastate the natural environment for years to come, Peters’ company also organised a Joint Inspection Visit (JIV) and went about setting up proactive measures to fix the spill and save the environment and people. So far, Aiteo has even gotten Clean Nigeria Associates (CNA) involved, alongside the most prominent well-controlling company in the world, Boots & Coots.
Considering Peters’ moves, it is only a matter of time before the faulty wellhead is fixed. In the meantime, Peters’ entourage has paid visits to affected communities, bringing relief materials and helping the people survive the harrowing experience.
That is a businessperson with a heart for you. Quite a rare sight in these modern times.
