Rotary Club of Akowonjo to Provide Water in Community

In keeping with the club’s promise to deliver quality projects within its catchment community, Rotary Club of Akowonjo has promised to sink a borehole and other projects in conjuction with Faadaakaa, a Home, Housing and Properties company which has vowed a million naira in support of projects to be executed by the club for the next one year in alignment with the foundation vision of the organisation.

Speaking during his installation as the 36th President of Rotary Club of Akowonjo, Rotarian (Engr.) Victor Amaraegbu, expressed great delight at the patnership with Faadaakaa and expressed happiness following numerous promises made towards the club’s planned projects by public spirited individuals and organisations that graced the club’s installation event which took place at the exquisite Oranmiyan Hall of the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja recently.

President Amaraegbu, expressed satisfaction with what the club has accomplished within three months of assuming the position of the club’s president noting that “with less than nine months to go into the Rotary year, I can confidently say that we have done a lot of projects and I know we are going to do more”.

According to the Rotarian president “so far, we have been able to plant over 80 trees within Lagos State; renovated dilapidated block of classrooms; we have made donations to Little Saints Orphanage; made donations to our Adult Literacy programme; and book donation at Rauf Aregbesola Primary School, Akowonjo, conducted a school’s debate and quiz during our Basic Education and Literacy programme, giving out so many valuable gift items including a trophy, medals and writing materials and this month we are also having our economic empowerment programme.”As he put it: “we have done so much within these three months and I am sure that in the next nine months to come we have so much to do for mankind adding also that “honestly, I want to say, I am privileged to lead men of high intelligence in this club, and Rotary Club of Akowonjo will smile again and continue to smile after this current year”.

He thanked and was full of praise for the Investiture Committee which organised the event, the board of directors and entire club for their massive support for the programme.

Delivering his speech as guest speaker at the occasion titled: Human and Community Development: The Rotary Impact, Honourable Kehinde Odeneye told the teeming audience comprising of Rotarians and guests that “the happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything but make the best of everything” noting that “they live simply, love generously, speak kindly and care deeply, that is Rotary”. Honourable Odeneye said Rotary connects passionate people with diverse perspectives to exchange ideas and forge life-long friendships and above all take actions that change the world.

Rotary Honorable Odeneye, who himself is a Rotarian satated that Rotary is an international service organisation whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in oder to provide humanitarian services and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. The organisation he noted is non political and non-religious and it comprises of community builders who want to get to work on projects that have real lasting impacts on people’s lives. Through Rotary, he quipped “you can contribute in a lot of ways to the development of the people in your community and the community as well” adding that “ask not what your community can do for you but what you can do for your community”.

In his own remarks, the MD/CEO of Faadaakaa group, Mr. Remi Adeyemi said his company’s partnership with Rotary is a “further reinforcement of our resolve to support organisations that have a form of alignment with the foundation vision of Faadaakaa where we support the vulnerable in the society”.

According to Mr. Adeyemi, “when the president in his speech made remarks on where the Rotary club has been instrumental in some intervention projects in helping the community in the areas of building infrastructure in schools around their locality and also supporting the health care system of the locality, we felt this is the club we would love to have a lasting relationship with because their vision and activity align with the foundation vision of Faadaakaa”.

Consequently, “to substantiate our resolve to align and partner with Rotary Club of Akowonjo and in line with the work they are already doing, Faadaakaa is making a commitment to support projects the club will carry out in the next one year with a total sum of N1 million.”

Part of the highlights of the event was awards giving to deserving members of the society one of whom was Mr. Kabir Aregbeshola, from the Vice President’s office, Aso Rock, Abuja, and the inauguration of the board of directors by the president of the club.
