The CP made the commendation yesterday , during a programme in honour of the DPO as excellent officer by E-hailing service drivers (Bolt Drivers).
Represented by the state Police Public Relation Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni, CP Eboka said the Police management is not surprised to get such excellent report of CSP Christiana from members of the public, noting that the DPO has been an outstanding officer.
He said the award is a step in the right direction to motivate the police.
“I appreciate you the organizers for picking our DPO as your first choice to be awarded today. It is not by mistake. We the Police know the officer you are honouring today, she is a distinguished Police Officer. During our management meeting when her name is featured in the meeting she is always commended, “ he said.
Earlier, at the award presentation, the Bolt driver victim, who gave his name as Clement Edet described the DPO as divine for saving his life from suspected car snatchers in the state.
He narrated the unfortunate incident that almost claimed his life, noting that his second chance at life was through the selflessness of the CSP Cyril.
Edet, while narrating his near-death experience noted that he is by profession a sailor but uses his car for a Bolt as a side job whenever he is free.
He explained that in one of the rides in June at the Rivers State University, (RSU) his passengers strangled him with a rope which made him to pass out but narrowly escaped death through the apt intervention of the DPO.
Edet added that he was dazed by the kind gesture of the Police officer who went beyond her duty to pay for his medical bill and ensured his car recovered, lauded the DPO and her men.
Edet said: “The incident happened in June. I am a sailor and during my off time, I do register with bolt, an e- hailing service, and one day I stepped out for some evening job,”
“During our ride that evening, two students booked me at the RSU and we started the ride and all of a sudden one of them at the backside brought out a rope and strangled me and I passed out. They took me to the backside to either rip off some of my body parts but by the intervention of God I was able to jerk back to life.
“So I managed to push off the door and jumped out of the car. Fortunately, two students who were passing by came and saved me and raised the alarm.
“They took me to the CSO of RSU who was on duty. Was surprised she took up the case and through her, my life was saved.”
The association of E-Hailing drivers, through its spokesperson, Nwagwu Charles, also eulogized the DPO’s beavery, while calling on police personnel to emulate her.
Nwagwu said: “We are here to give an award of excellence to the DPO of mile 3 police station, Christy Cyril because she rescued one of our members that were attacked in RSU.
“Her early intervention saved a life through God’s grace. She went beyond her call to duty to our member. Because she brought out her hard-earned money which is unbelievable to many of us.”
In her response, CSP Cyril Christaina said the award would spur her to do more. She dedicated the award to God, Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police in Rivers state.
