The Manager of St. Patrick’s College, Awka, Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Celestine Anaekwe, has narrated how the former Governor of the state and former Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, through his educational investment in the institution, encouraged more academic exploits and global success.
In a chat with journalists, Anaekwe narrated how Obi, desirous of more qualitative education and better future for children, paid a surprise visit to the school in January, 2020 and donated laptop computers, printers and generator set worth millions of naira. He said with Obi’s kind investment, “the door to another level of glory was unlocked
“The laptop computers and other ICT facilities donated by Obi gave our students the platform for greatness. The amenities enabled them to prepare and participate in this year’s National online Inter Switch SPAK Science Competition, one of the biggest national competitions in Nigeria.
“In the first round of the preliminaries, two of our students, Chukwuemeka Douglas Kosiso and Nwafor Ebube Marycynthia, defeated other students, qualified and were named among the top 500 science students in Nigeria. While in the second round of the said online competition, two of them again won, qualified and were once again among the top 80 science students in Nigeria.
“Again, in the 2021 Crux Learning National Online Mathematics Competition round two, our student, Paul Ariyo also qualified and was among the best 500 mathematics students in Nigeria. What a feat! And on August 7, 2021 they were in the air heading to Lagos for the TV quiz show.
Anaekwe added: “With Obi’s computer magic wand, we made history in Anambra, being the only school which produced two students out of the five students that came from Anambra State in 2021 National Interswitchspak Science competition. History was made in the lives of these kids who through the magic wand of Obi’s computers, were sold to the nation.”
He thanked Obi for his relentless support and investment in the education sector, adding that Obi revolutionalised the state’s education sector.
