The Ministry of Works and Housing, has denied reports by a section of the media, alleging neglect of a burnt bridge in Toyota bus stop, Apapa Oshodi-Express way, saying despite deliberate mischief, the ministry has maintained meticulous repairs of the said bridge.
According to a press release by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos/Engineer’s Representative, Engr. J.O Popoola, “The Project was awarded to the contractor on the 21st of April, 2021 and the contractor mobilised to site on the 26th of May, 2021.
“At the resumption of the contractor to site, work commenced immediately on site with the commencement of site preparatory works and development of a practical traffic management plan to be adopted during the execution of works.
“Like every other project within and outside the state, challenges have come up but with the pro-activeness of the Ministry’s supervisory team, Federal and Lagos State Government Traffic Management Agencies, the Nigerian Police and the contractor have been able to mitigate these challenges to the barest minimum.”
Popoola, who supported his claims with several pictures of progress report, said, “So far we have been able to accomplish an effective traffic management system, the cleaning of the smoke stained areas of the bridge and the setup of temporary support at the burnt bridge Pier, to support the bridge during the execution of the repair works.
“Presently, the investigation of the burnt pier foundation has been completed and reinforcement works of the burnt pier will commence, after which the pier will be casted and fully rehabilitated.
“Motorists are advised to ply alternative routes and cooperate with traffic management agencies, as traffic control officers will be on-ground to direct and help with the flow of traffic.”
While regretting whatever inconveniences the repairs might have caused the public, he, on behalf of the supervising minister, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, thanked the public for their perseverance since the commencement of the project.
