Eighteen years after he was assassinated, family and associates of Chief Ajibola Olanipekun (SAN), yesterday called on the Nigerian police and other security agencies in the country to unmask his killers.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State, was assassinated at his Ibadan residence on 20 June, 2003.
A friend of the deceased, Chief Moyo Adewuyi, while speaking during the 18th remembrance prayers, held in Ibadan, lamented that his life was cut short in his prime while making progress in the law profession, stating that he
was a straight forward person who never engaged in shady business with anybody while alive.
Present at the event include his wife, Khadijat, family members, the South-west Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; Oyo State Head of Service (HOS), Alhaja Ololade Agboola; and Islamic clerics, among many others.
Adewuyi who was a friend to the deceased for over 20 years, said till now there had not been any clue on his assassination, noting that no one knew the reason for the assassination of the late SAN who was a straight forward person.
According to him, “He faced his legal practice after he was removed as commissioner by the administration of Chief Kolapo Ishola and was making progress as he became SAN after he left office. His killers got him exactly 100 days after he was first attacked in his residence.”
The son of the deceased, Jubril Olanipekun while speaking on behalf of the family, said the family was waiting on the security agencies most especially the police to unravel the killers of his dad, describing him as an accomplished man who stood out among his peers and whom the entire family would continue to uphold the legacy he left behind.
