FUL lnaugurates Steering Committee for Establishment of Faculty of Medicine

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State, Professor Olayemi Akinwunmi has inaugurated a 17-man steering committee for the take-off of Medical Sciences programme as part of efforts to expand the scope of the citadel of learning.
Addressing journalists at the Adankolo Campus of the university in Lokoja recently, he stated that following the approval by senate at its 61st special meeting, it considered the establishment of medicine and engineering programmes in the institution.
He explained that the university is kick-starting the actualisation of the establishment of the medical sciences programmes in earnest by inaugurating a steering committee to start the groundwork for its commencement with terms of reference.
“The terms of reference are to provide the blue print for the establishment of Medical Sciences programme in FUL through provision of requirements needed to scale through the resources verification laid down by National Universities Commission (NUC), to develop the required curriculum to meet the standard best practice for the programme,, design a model that will not put the graduates at a disadvantage if they want to go into academics,advice on how to attain the minimum manpower/staff required for the take-off of the programme.”
The committee is expected to conclude its assignment and present a report on it to management on or before six weeks of the inauguration.
Speaking on behalf of other steering committee members, the Coordinator, Professor Mike Ozovehe Ogirima promised that it will do its best to ensure the success of the programme, noting that the pedigree of members, will go a long way.
He assured the VC that the committee will deliver on its mandate at expiration of six weeks which will lead to the commencement of the programme.
