Kemi Olaitan in Ibadan
The sallah celebration to mark the end of Ramadan in Iseyin in Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, yesterday turned into mourning as stray bullets allegedly fired by men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) killed four people with one other person injured.
THISDAY learnt that those killed were hit by bullets when men of the NCS exchanged gunfire with some people believed to be smugglers.
It was gathered that the Customs officers started shooting indiscriminately after intercepting smuggled goods coming through the borders into the town.
It was further learnt that following the death of those killed, youths in the town took to the streets protesting the killing of their kinsmen.
Efforts made to get the reaction of the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Oyo/Osun Command, Mr. Kayode Wey, proved abortive as calls to his lines were not picked.
