Group Asks PEPC To Safeguard Nigeria Democracy
The Free Nigeria Movement (FRN) has urged the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and ensure justice in its decisions.
The group emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law, protecting liberty, and ensuring due process in order to maintain social order and protect the rights of the Nigerian people.
They expressed concern that Nigeria is currently facing challenges in various areas such as politics, ideology, infrastructure, national cohesion, insecurity, and public welfare, and emphasized the need for special attention to address these issues.
The FRN called on the judges of the PEPC to demonstrate their commitment to justice and to consider the well-being of Nigerians in their decisions.
They emphasized that the courts play a symbolic role in society and have a responsibility to expunge any doubts and suspicions regarding the administration of justice.
The group also urged the judges to uphold their integrity and defend the dignity of the country in all their decisions, as their actions would have a significant impact on the nation.
Furthermore, the FRN maintained their position calling for the cancellation of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, citing irregularities and manipulations.
They urged the judges to consider the ongoing violence and killings in various parts of the country and the impact of such incidents on the nation’s psyche and international reputation.
The group emphasized the need for a government that upholds public trust and accountability to address the security challenges in the country.
The FRN also called on the Supreme Court to expedite the case of double nomination of Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim Shettima and urged the court to ensure a transparent and fair process.
They criticized attempts to deny the All Progressives Congress (APC) access to electoral materials in Delta State and called for the release of such materials to the party.
The group stressed that the courts should not be used as a means to fuel political desperation and called on Nigerians to demand justice.
In addition to their previous demands, the FRN reiterated their call for the removal, arrest, and prosecution of Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, the cancellation of the presidential election, the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Committee for national healing, and compensation for all Nigerians affected by electoral violence.
