AEDC: Niger Disowns Protesters
By Laleye Dipo in Minna
The Niger State government has disowned Youth Lead Nigeria, the organisation behind the protest against the Abuja Electricity Development Company (AEDC) over the erratic electricity supply to Minna and adjoining towns.
However, Youth Lead Nigeria has said in reaction to the government statement that it was a legal body.
The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammad Ahmed Ketso, distanced the government from the youth organisation while responding to questions on an FM radio station in Minna on Tuesday evening.
Ketso described the organisation as “illegal, faceless” and that the protest embarked upon by the youths was also unwarranted and uncalled for.
However, the convener of the protest, Mohammed Saidu Etsu, while reacting to the deputy governor’s statement said: “We want to bring to the notice of the whole world that #YouthleadNigeria is an advocacy movement under the auspices of the Egalitarian Mission Africa.”
