Lagos Task Force Warns Traditional Council Chiefs Against Fake Number Plates
- Arrests 285 miscreants, impounds 295 motorcycles
The Lagos State Task Force on Sunday warned traditional council chiefs against using fake vehicle number plates, just as it said they arrested 285 miscreants for various crimes and environmental offences and impounded 295 motorcycles across the state.
It said it had observed that the traditional council chiefs and their relations use vehicles with fake special plate numbers to contravene the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012.
In a statement by the Head, Public Affairs Unit, Adebayo Taofiq, the taskforce said investigations revealed that most of these council chiefs and their relations’ vehicles with special plate numbers were fake.
He said these vehicles with fake plate numbers were equally being used to commit environmental offences and dubious activities across the state.
He said, “While the government enjoined traditional rulers to check these excesses of their council chiefs and their relations within their domains by ensuring that all their vehicles with special traditional number plates are registered.
“Anyone arrested committing traffic and any other environmental offences with any of these vehicles will be arrested and charged to court accordingly.”
Meanwhile, the taskforce said it has arrested 285 persons and impounded 295 motorcycles across the state in the last one month.
They were arrested by officials of the task force at Oshodi, Mushin, Oyingbo, Ajah, Agege, Mile 2, Victoria Island, Okokomaiko, Obalende and Ojodu areas an among those arrested were 85 people who contravened the law during the last environmental sanitation exercise.
