A pro-democracy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), on Sunday said the Department of State Security Service (DSS) has no right to invade the office of the House Committee on Appropriation and stop it from ‎performing its constitutional duties, following the recent revelation about budget padding.

The rights group also berated human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, for allegedly supporting illegalities of the present administration.

Its National Coordinator, Emmauel‎ Onwubiko, stated this at a press conference in Abuja where he stressed that the group was specifically bothered by the sudden eruption of a politically instigated controversy surrounding the 2016 Appropriation which has been passed into law by the National Assembly.

According to him, “DSS don’t have the right to invade the hallowed chambers to stop elected members of the National Assembly from doing their constitutionally re‎cognised duties as representatives of the people. They don’t have their right.

“Why did they go to the National Assembly based on hear-say ‎of a man who said he knew that something like that happened, and as a chairman of that committee he didn’t resign; now you are calling the press. Why didn’t he tell us when such things were happening?”
