Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions Coach, Song, Fired

Cameroon’s football federation (FECAFOOT) President, Samuel Eto’o Fils, has announced the sacking of Indomitable Lions Coach, Rigobert Song.

The Lions under the watch of Song were knocked out of the AFCON 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire by Super Eagles in the Round of 16 clash.

Eto, a former Cameroon, Barcelona and Inter Milan legend was dissatisfied by the manner the Indomitable Lions were beaten at that stage of the tournament by rival Nigeria.

“We have not achieved our objectives, and our executive committee and I do not see ourselves renewing the contract (with Song),” Eto’o told France 24 on Wednesday morning.

Song, a former international team-mate of Eto’o, was appointed as Cameroon boss in February 2022.

He helped the Indomitable Lions to a dramatic play-off victory over Algeria in extra time to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

Internal strife that led to number 1 goalkeeper Andre Onana leaving camp prematurely eventually led to Cameroon exiting the mundial earlier than necessary.
