The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the state Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for the ‘spirited’ effort to accelerate the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the newly established University of Ilesa.

The PDP in a statement signed by its state Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi, also congratulated the University of Ilesa community and the entire Ijesa land for the ground-breaking feat, affirming that the accelerated approval affirms the genuine intentions of the governor to the realisation of the lofty dream of the Ijesa nation on the establishment of the citadel of learning.

NUC last Monday had in a letter to the vice-chancellor of the University of Ilesa conveyed the approval of the commission for 32 full-time programmes to be run in the first instance on the main campus of the university beginning from the 2023/2024 academic session.

The full-time programmes as approved by the NUC include Anatomy, Physiology, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Microbiology, Nursing, and English among others.

The state PDP further assured the management of UNILESA that Governor Adeleke would continue to support the institution to enhance its academic mission in the education treaty of the country.

According to Bisi, “Our great party wishes to congratulate the Owa Obokun in Council and the good people of Ijesa land for the administrative approval within the short period of the PDP government after injecting pragmatic efforts devoid of undue procrastination for political capital.

“We also call on the management and the members of the university to put in the best of their efforts in transforming the institution to an enviable height within the shortest possible time.”
