Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has raised the alarm that there are imminent plans by some unscrupulous elements to carry out attack deadly attacks in some parts of the state.

Ishaku, who raised the alarm on Saturday in Jalingo during his remarks at the closing ceremony of Taraba Cultural Carnival held at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, said the state government is working with security agencies to forestall the devilish plan.

The governor, who urged the people of the state to remain calm and vigilant, assured them the sinister plan would fail, saying anyone or group that plans to destroy the state from within or outside would surely fail.

According to him “I am aware of plans to attack the state imminently by certain elements in the country. We are working with the security agencies to forestall this from happening and I can assure you that these plans would fail.

“Taraba is truly nature’s gift to the nation and anyone trying to destroy the state either from within or without will fail. Our unity of purpose as exhibited here today shows that we can withstand any challenge.

“I urge you at this time, above all, to remain very vigilant and watchful. There is no need for panic as we are doing everything to make sure that the relative peace we have in the state now is not compromised. We would not tolerate any attempt to infringe on our peaceful coexistence by any force whatsoever”, he said.

Enjoining the people to remain united as one big family and tolerate each other’s shortcomings, the governor noted that the strength of the people is rooted in their unity of purpose and determination to live together as a people despite their differences.

He commended his wife, Mrs. Anna Ishaku and her foundation, Hope Afresh Foundation for organising the cultural carnival, which, according to him, was to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the people of the state, just as he assured that the state government would key into the initiative to make it more elaborate and an annual event.

On the state government’s involvement, the governor posited that the carnival would not only bring the people together but would attract tourists from all over the world and place the state on the world map.

Ishaku further revealed in a short time to come, the state would be one of the most sought-after states in the country by investors and tourists from around the world, and therefore called on the people to imbibe love and peace to encourage investors and ultimately enjoy the dividends of democracy.

In her remarks, Mrs. Ishaku said the carnival was borne out of the recognition of the key role culture plays as catalyst for peace, unity and development and the need to address the dwindling values attached to the rich cultural heritage of the state by the present and upcoming generation.

“Tourism is one of the most viable industries in the world and Taraba has all that it takes to become a major tourism hub in the region. Our rich cultural heritage is on the verge of extinction due to lack of platform for their exhibition. That is why I came up with this initiative to bring our people together to foster unity, peace and oneness”, she said.
