Home-based Eagles Begin WAFU Cup Playoff againstSierra Leone  

Nigeria will playoff against Sierra Leone in Cape Coast by 7pm today in continuation of this year’s WAFU Cup, which has already seen hosts Ghana and Senegal qualify for the group stage of the sub-regional competition.
According to SCORENigeria the home-based Eagles flew out of Abuja to the Ghanaian city late yesterday.
The fixture was originally billed to be played on Saturday but it was shifted to allow Nigeria line up their best players at the end of the domestic league season.
On the opening day of the tournament, home team Ghana pipped Gambia 1-0, while Senegal stopped Liberia 5-4 on penalties for the winners to advance to the mini-league stage.
Mali vs Mauritania will open today’s fixtures before Nigeria takes to the pitch against Sierra Leone.
On Tuesday, Cote d’Ivoire will tackle Togo while Benin will be up against Cape Verde.
“The competition has got off to a great start with good football and good attendances,” disclosed former Nigeria international, Garba Lawal, who is on the tournament’s Technical Study Group along with the likes of Ghana stars Stephen Baidoo and Augustine Ahinful.
