As part of its humanitarian and educational intervention initiatives, a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO), Educational Co-operation Society (ECS), has donated modern environmental/sanitary facility to Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The facility comprised a block of 16 toilet and 24 bathroom cubicles with high quality water closets (sinks and showers), and fully-tiled for students’ convenience.

Speaking on Monday, at the inauguration and handover ceremony of the facility, Chairman, Educational Co-operation Society, Mr. Charles Osezua, said the project was aimed at improving access to quality hygiene and sanitation in the school, noting that, that would be achieved in two functional ways.

These ways, according to him, are the provision of the infrastructure that was handed over to the school and, instituting a modular sanitation and hygiene learning in the school, to encourage hygiene habits and behavioural changes in the school population and in homes. Osezua who was represented at the occasion by the General Manager, ECS, Dr. Emmanuel Chudi Iheanacho, used the occasion to call on the Ogun State Government and charitable individuals and corporate organizations to support the sanitation development initiatives of the school and the ECS in order to complete the outstanding stage of the project, which continues from the decking. He also explained that the social services of the organisation were being inspired by the ideas drawn from the teachings of the founder of Opus Dei Prelature of the Catholic Church, St. Josemaria Eseriva, who, he said, encouraged them to work with people of good will irrespective of religion and culture, for the service of the common good of the society.

“On this project, ECS partnered with the Association Zabalketa, the parents and the school authority. Most of the funding was received from Ayuntamiento Getxo, a municipal authority in Spain,” Ozesua said.

Earlier in her welcome speech, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Oluseye Abisoye Ajayi, thanked the Educational Cooperation Society, for responding to their cry for help through the provision of the facility, noting that it would go a long way in improving the sanitary condition of the school and the girls.

“I am delighted to be in your midst to witness the inauguration of 16 toilets and 24 bathrooms. The convenience and the bathrooms are furnished with high quality tiles, sinks, etc. Indeed, your sense of communal responsibility is highly appreciated. This is commendable,” Ajayi said.

Ajayi assured their benefactors that the school would make good use of the facility to attract more laudable projects, adding that, the school would look forward to the completion of the second phase of the project.
