An undergraduate, Olusoji Thompson has been detained at the homicide section of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly killing his octogenarian father.

The deceased, Chief Clifford Olumekun, 86, was allegedly hacked to death on January 2, 2017 with an axe by his son at his residence located at No 1, Okeraye Street, Idepe in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The suspect, according to a source, was handed over to the police after he allegedly confessed to the dastardly act after the family had consulted the oracle to expose the killer.

A source narrated that immediately after killing his father, the suspect allegedly parked the deceased’s lifeless body, wrapped it with a cloth and cleaned the blood stains in the room so as not to douse suspicion that he (deceased) was murdered.

The suspect was alleged to have fled the town immediately after he committed the crime. “When the family members got into the room they noticed the blood stains that were carelessly cleaned on the floor of the room. “They also found out that blood stains that were supposed to be on the deceased’s body had been carefully cleaned and his corpse was wrapped in a big cloth as if he died naturally,” he said.

The source added that the family immediately consulted the oracle to expose the killer but the suspect who had earlier fled the town showed up and confessed to the crime. He was later handed over to the police.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, who disclosed that the suspect was now being detained, said investigation would be conducted on the incident.

Joseph said the reason for the boy’s dastardly act was not known as at the time of this report.

“The incident happened on January 2, 2017 and we have arrested the suspect. We are still interrogating him to know why he carried out such an act,” he said.
