The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has congratulated Nigeria’s senior female national team, the Super Falcons, for ending the 16-year Olympic jinx by qualifying for 2024 edition of the games billed for Paris, France in July.
The Super Falcons had Tuesday held their South African counterpart, Banyana Banyana to a goalless draw in Pretoria to qualify on 1-0 goal aggregate for the Paris Olympic Games.
Reacting to the team’s feat, Mrs Tinubu in a statement personally signed while congratulating the female soccer team, said ending a close to two decades old Olympic jinx meant a lot to the country.
According to her, the success of the team clearly showed that the players’ perseverance and commitment had truly paid off.
Mrs Tinubu, who said she’s proud of the team, also urged the Falcons to make Nigeria proud by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics later in the year.
The First Lady in the one-page congratulatory letter stated: “Dear Super Falcons, Congratulations our Super Falcons. Ending a 16-year Olympic jinx is no small feat, and your perseverance and commitment have truly paid off.
“Your hard work, resilience, and team spirit have brought glory to Nigeria and inspired countless young girls across the country to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
“I am so proud of all your achievements. Your journey doesn’t end here; it’s just the beginning of an even greater adventure. Make Nigeria proud, Super Falcons! Bring home the gold!”
