Be Good Ambassadors of Your Family, School, Sokoto Varsity’s VC Advises Students

The Vice-Chancellor, Sokoto State University, Sokoto, Prof Garba Bashir, has admonished the matriculating students to be good ambassadors of their families and the school.
Bashir also enjoined them not to indulge in cultism and examination misconduct that would truncate their academic programmes.
He urged them to be diligent in their studies so that their parents and families would not be disappointed at the end.
The VC gave the admonition in his address during the 10th matriculation ceremony of the university held at the convocation square of the school yesterday.
He noted that the university is a nurturing ground for future leaders, who will create impact in the world.
According to him, “Obey rules and regulations of the university, uphold and promote the noble ideals, principles, and those values which the university is known for.
“This great institution has long stood as a symbol of academic excellence and a nurturing ground for future leaders.
The degrees of the university are only awarded to deserving students who are found to be worthy in character and learning.
“Do not disappoint yourselves, your parents, your families, your state, your country, and of course humanity. Let the nature of the university pass through you so that at the end you will be a liberated human being.”
He noted that the university is fast growing and moving to the next phase of academic and physical development, stressing that the university postgraduate programmes has come to stay.
The VC intimated the public that the university has commenced the Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture, saying the work at the College of Health Science and that of Teaching Hospital is at the verge of completion.
He thanked the Visitor of the university, and state Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for infrastructural development of the university.
He appealed to the governor to lift embargo on the employment for the postgraduate school.
A total of 3,195 student took the matriculation oath, comprising 569 students for postgraduate programmes and 2,626 for undergraduate programmes for 2023/2024 academic session.
