Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has said his administration will partner and strengthen its cooperation with the anti-graft agencies to fight corruption in the state judiciary and civil service.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Government House, Kaduna, while swearing in Mohammed Aminu Danjuma, the newly appointed Grand Khadi of the state, he said complaints about untoward activities of judges at the lower courts were unacceptable.

The governor urged the new Grand Khadi to work assiduously to ensure discipline of the staff of the Sharia Court of Appeal, particularly those of the lower courts who are the closest judges to the masses.

Sani thanked the National Judicial Council (NJC) for recommending a highly experienced legal practitioner and distinguished scholar of Islamic law for appointment as the Grand Khadi.

“I am confident that the new Grand Khadi Mohammed Aminu will position the Sharia Court of Appeal and make it a true temple of justice for the citizens of Kaduna State.

“Our administration is committed to ensuring the rule of law and independence of judiciary in Kaduna State,” the governor said.

He promised to give the judiciary the needed support to perform optimally and ensure access to justice for citizens.

He stressed that: “To serve our people better and advance social justice, there must be synergy between the executive and the judiciary.”

He noted that the welfare and security of the people is the primary concern of government, adding that: “Our action must complement or reinforce each other.

“If we work at cross purposes, we will undermine the system and lose the trust and confidence of the people.”

Speaking further, the governor urged the Grand Khadi “to work assiduously to strengthen the discipline of the staff of the Sharia Court of Appeal, and in particular those of the lower courts who are the closest judges to the masses”.

He said: “There had been a lot of complaints from the grassroots about the untoward activities of the lower court judges. This is unacceptable.

“The state government will strengthen its cooperation and partnership with anti-corruption agencies to effectively fight corruption in the judiciary and the civil service in general.

“I also urged our new Grand Khadi to discharge his constitutional mandate in accordance with the law and without fear or favour.”
