Boat Carrying 100 Passengers Capsizes in Niger

The fate of no less than 100 passengers traveling in a boat from Dugga Mashaya in Dugga ward of  Kebbi State heading to Wara in Borgu Local Government of Niger State is still uncertain following the capsize of the vehicle.

The boat reportedly capsized at about 2.05 p.m. on Monday.

Apart from the 100 passengers, the boat was said to be ferrying some goods, including grains and sugarcane to the Wara market.

The Public Relations Officer of Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Mr. Abdul Hussaini, confirmed the incident but said that details about the incident were still sketchy.

Hussaini said that as at 6p.m. yesterday day “no clear information about death and survivors” has been received.

He, however, disclosed that search and rescue operations are ongoing by the local divers.
