The Commander Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army, Major General Kelvin O. Aligbe, has said that only collaboration between the nation’s security forces and other stakeholders would surmount the menace of insecurity in the country.

Aligbe stated this yesterday in Minna at the opening of the Doctrine and Training Conference with the theme “Enhancing Operational Effectiveness in a Joint Environment Through Tailor Made Training” at the TRADOC Headquarters, Minna Niger State.

“It has become clear in the increasingly complex modern operational environment that the Army must work with other services, government security agencies as well as non-governmental stakeholders to secure the country for prosperity to thrive,” he declared.

He, however, assured that the Nigerian Army under such arrangements would be operating largely as part of a joint task force while retaining the readiness to do same under a multinational force within a regional or global arrangement.

He submitted that to achieve success, officers and men of the armed forces “within a joint multinational environment must be well trained and mission capable troops.”

He charged officers and men of the armed forces to understand the spirit of the Nigerian Army Doctrine 2022, which entailed the philosophy of Proactive Responsive Defence (PRD) in order to be effective during operations.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoheed Lagbaja, in a message to the conference emphasised the need for training and retraining of officers and men for their effectiveness.

Lagbaja declared that the Nigerian Army is engaged in a wide range of military operations from conventional military engagements, which included military operations other than war to peace support operations, counter insurgency/terrorism and anti-banditry operations, which required that they should be trained for the planning and execution of the operations according to extant laws.

Lagbaja, who was represented by the Director of Training Army Headquarters, Major General Sani Gambo, charged the participants to leverage on the pillars of leadership and operational efficiency in the performance of their assignments.

The conference will last four days
