Alile, Vignatelli, Jemide, Abati, Olusola Others to Lead the Conversation at 5th Africa Coaching Week

The fifth edition of the African Coaching Week 2023 has kicked off on a brighter note as the Life Coaches Association of Nigeria(LCAN), the pre-eminent coaching body in Nigeria, described it as “extraordinary experience”, even as the body continues its quest to deepen the practice of sound corporate governance, good leadership and best practices across the African continent.

According to the organisers, this year’s conference taking place from November 27 to 30, has its theme as: ‘Coaching: The Key to Unlocking Africa’s True Potential’, and will close out with a powerful flagship conference on November 30 at EbonyLife Place in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The organiser said: “So far, it has reached more people globally than in previous editions with more than 10 plenaries, 30 speakers and moderators. Registered attendees from over 12 countries across Africa and the USA, the United Kingdom and parts of Europe make up the participants at the virtual sessions.

“There have been opportunities for attendees to engage with prominent experts and industry leaders actively steering the course of Africa’s business and leadership landscape. The highlight of the opening session was the keynote conversation between a distinguished figure in the international coaching community, Dr. Lanre Olusola and veteran journalist and Arise TV anchor, Dr. Reuben Abati, on the strategic role of coaching in transformational progress.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Abati charged leaders to seek coaching in order to confront challenges head on, adding: “Our leaders need to have personal coaching because you have to be prepared to lead a nation. Leaders should see public service as servant leadership.”

Speaking in the same vein, Dr. Olusola noted that we can only change Nigeria by adhering to a new culture of accountability.

“Coaching should be a tool to assess what has stopped us in the past and what we can use to progress in the future. It helps us to stay focused, committed, as well as creates synergy. Coaching is critical to helping us take ownership,” he said.

This year’s ACW spotlights will not just be for only the benefits of coaching, but will also show Africans practical ways coaching can transform their personal and professional lives, as well as celebrate the coaches who make up the industry.

In her remark, LCAN President, Omawumi Ogbe said: “From the many successes recorded, it is time to adopt coaching for societal change, especially across Africa.

“As it’s our yearly tradition, we have increased our collaborations and invited a lineup of thought leaders and power-packed speakers that will inspire and empower attendees. Our continent must contribute to global wealth and development financing for others. We simply must turn the tide, and LCAN is poised to help our leaders reach for the stars.

“Indeed, an outstanding time has been had so far at the conference-rich, full, eventful, and highly remarkable. There have been several light-bulb moments, as well as several eureka moments.

“Deep insights as well as tough conversations by an excellent lineup of industry leaders from across Africa have been shared during the coaching week, including the Chief Executive Office of ACT Foundation, Osayi Alile, who noted this during her session on ‘Walking the Tightrope – Balancing Ambition and Authenticity in Leadership’.”

Alile said: “That authenticity is a journey to knowing who we are. In going through the journey of life, surround yourself with strong people and have a tribe who can be totally honest with you at all times.”

Other industry leaders who would speak at the event include Lead Partner at DETAIL Commercial Solicitors and former NBA Section on Business Law President, Ayuli Jemide; Founder/CEO of Cerca Africa, Sam Obafemi; CEO, GIG Mobility and Managing Director, Pause Factory, Enahoro Okhae; Vice President, Luxury Living Group, Olga Vignatelli; CEO of F-CUBE, Caterina Rivadossi; Psychologist, Family Therapist and Mindfulness Coach, Dr. Ruth Goma; Founder and CEO of Kgommuu International, Sophie Masipa; Lead Strategist at The Alpha Reach, JJ Omojuwa; Executive Leadership Coach, Mamadou Guebre; World Class Performance strategist, Dr. Abiola Salami; CEO of Smart Stewards, Sola Adesakin, among many others.
