Against all odds, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, Monday, formally declared his intention to contest the 2024 governorship election, saying “no body can stop my ambition”.

Shaibu who stated this at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, Benin City, Edo State, added that his ambition was anchored on a five-pillar agenda which include: infrastructural development, economic diversification;

education, sports, skills development and job creation; health and social welfare; and agriculture, rural development and poverty alleviation.

The deputy governor, as gathered, had earlier booked a hotel located in the highbrow Government Reservation Area (GRA), which was paid for, but was later denied the use of the venue.

It was learnt that a staff member of the popular  hotel owned by a prominent PDP chieftain had contacted the deputy governor that a group under the aegis of “Obaseki finishing well group, (OFG), had paid for the same venue and subsequently refunded the  money paid for the use of the venue back to Shaibu.

A source ware of the development stated, “We found this very preposterous that we were contacted by the hotel management that a group had paid for the same venue we paid for that they have a program slated for 7am same date. We know where this  is coming from. Whatever their plans to frustrate our declaration will definitely fail. They are jittery over Shaibu’s declaration and popularity”.
