300 Traders Benefit from Free Medical Outreach by Insurance Firm

As part of its corporate social responsibility(CSR),  Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation (CIPLCF) has organised a free medical outreach for over 300 traders in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The traders who benefited from the medical outreach, held at the Fruits Garden Market, Port Harcourt, expressed joy that the insurance firm recognised the need for their good healthcare, hence the free healthcare delivery.

The Marketing and Cooperate Communication Officer for Cornerstone Insurance, Karyne Onyema, who spoke with journalists during the event, said a similar outreach was also organised by the firm in Lagos, Ibadan, Uyo and Abuja.

She said: “CIPLCF has put together plans to conduct free medical tests in various markets of the federation in a bid to improve the health of traders.

“A team of doctors and nurses were stationed in each location to check for Diabetes and Hypertension, give medical advice and provide drugs where necessary.”

Onyema explained that the aim of the outreach was to give back to society with their CSR programme, improve public perception and goodwill in society, create awareness and visibility for the Brand.

She said the programme will help them focus on touch points in society, create solutions (Health), and educate people on why it is necessary to do health checks.

Onyema continued that the impact of the health programme is that it will “Touch lives and make sure the future is assured.Create awareness and educate the people on the causes and prevention of Diabetes and Hypertension.”

She added that the sensitisation exercise would help in early detection of illnesses and with prescribed treatment.

Some of the beneficiaries that spoke at the outreach, thanked Cornerstone for the medication, while calling on government to ensure there is healthcare facility within the market premises to reduce cases of emergency and possible death.

Treasurer of the market association, Mr. John Ananti, said “I feel much excited. They said my sugar and blood pressure is high and I was given some drugs to handle the problem.”

Also Mr Godwin Lambart, a trader in the market, expressed “When they informed us that they were coming I never expected it this large. I was diagnosed of High blood pressure but my sugar is normal. I prefer the outreach because it will relief us the stress of going to queue in the hospital to get medication.

“If the government can bring healthcare facility close to the market it will help us at a larger length. I thank the organisers, Cornerstone Insurance for this incentive,” Lambert added.
