The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has received 150 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa also known as marijuana from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Katsina State.

The state NDLEA Commander, Mr. Sani Abubakar, disclosed this when he received the Controller of the Katsina Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Umar, on a courtesy visit.

He explained that the 150 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa were intercepted by operatives of the NCS along the Gusau-Funtua road and handed over to his agency.

He revealed that the presentation of the illegal substances by the NCS to the NDLEA was in line with its commitment to inter-agency cooperation and synergy in the state.

Abubakar said: “Within my two months in office, I have received transfers from the Nigeria Customs Service of about 150 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa intercepted coming into the state along Gusau-Funtua road.”

While pledging to work with the NCS in tackling smuggling and other transborder crimes, the state NDLEA boss said: “The Nigeria Customs Service is the only service mentioned in our Act and by implication, we are together.”

Earlier, Controller Umar advocated the need for security agencies in the state to be sharing credible intelligence and strengthen their synergy in order to win the war against transborder crimes and other security challenges.

He said the NCS was desirous of a collaborative effort of all security agencies towards intelligence sharing, with a view to decimating criminals and providing a peaceful atmosphere for Nigerians.

He appealed to the men and officers of the NDLEA not to allow uncustomed goods to pass in the course of discharging their responsibility, especially at the border communities in the state.
