A team of 94 academics, researchers and experts have come together to chronicle former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years in office.
Their findings, documented in a five-volume compendium, scored the immediate past administration around governance and development across sectors in his eight years tenure.
Themed: ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015-2023)’, the 125 chapters series initiated by May Publishing Limited captures the policies, programmes, projects, challenges, achievements and shortcomings of the former president, including his ascension to power.
Addressing journalists about the work in Lagos, recently, Project Director and Editor, Dr. Udu Yakubu, asserted that the compendium to be released soon was a clinical effort of independent researchers, devoid of political or government influence.
He said, “The volumes are pitched against and far above mere political talks coloured by populism, individual, party or sectarian interests, street sentiments and social media activism and propaganda. They deal with cold, hard empirical facts and figures in engaging the various policies, programmes and actions of the administration, and the impact that they had in Nigeria’s development over the last eight years.”
Providing a highlight of the five volumes, Yakubu said it tells the story of past administration in critically varied ways to let readers engage the narratives with an open and fair mind.
“Volume one to five of the series records president’s journey to power; his management and development of the economy; the various aspects of national security and human development; development of industry; trade and elements of public infrastructure as well as anti-corruption fight, constitutional political restructuring and Nigeria’s status in international arena, amongst others,” he disclosed.
