The 21st Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Mr. ‘Wale Abass, who succeeded the newly promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Ari Muhammed Ali, has resumed duty in the police command.

Abass resumption followed the deployment of Ali as the AIG in charge of ‘Zone 2’ in Lagos State.

The new commissioner, who hails from Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State, holds a bachelor degree in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Lagos.

He also holds a Master Degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.

Abbas was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on 3rd March, 1990 as a member of Course 16 Cadet ASP and was trained in the elite police academy in Kaduna.

He has served in various capacities in the NPF, including Unit Commander, 16 Squadron (PMF), where he rose to become the commander of the
squadron.

He also served as Area Commander Mubi in Adamawa State, Area Commander Railways, Lagos State Railway Command; Assistant Commissioner of Police State (CID) Delta State; Area Commander ‘C’ Surulere, Lagos State; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Yobe State; Deputy Commissioner of Police (SCID) Asaba, Delta State; Deputy Commissioner of Police Ogun State; and, Deputy Commissioner of Police (SCID) Oyo State Command.

He was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and posted to Benue State Command in 2022 where he served for a period of one year and four months before his redeployment to Delta State Command as its 21st commissioner.

While formally taking charge of the Delta State Police Command from his predecessor, the new commissioner of police promised to build on existing security mechanism to engender an atmosphere of peace and security across the state.

He urged members of the public to cooperate with the police and other security personnel at all times.

He also tasked youths to resist being used in carrying out any act of criminality.

Abbas, however, pointed out that he was not new to Delta State, and assured that he would continue from where his predecessor stopped, adding that the command under his leadership would ensure that the state becomes “uncomfortable for criminals.”

In his handover remarks, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, AIG Ali, thanked the people and government of Delta State for their cooperation during his tenure and urged them to extend the same support to his successor.
