Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has hailed Victor Osimhen for leading Napoli to the club’s third Italian Serie A title last Thursday.

Tinubu who is waiting to be inaugurated on May 29 as the President and Commander-in-Chief having won the presidential election last February, congratulated the Super Eagles forward who scored the equalising goal against Udinese that gave Napoli the Scudetto.

In a Twitter message posted on his official handle @ABATofficial on Sunday afternoon, Tinubu said of Osimhen who is the leading goals scorer on 23 goals in the Italian topflight this season: “I think we can all agree that there was another coronation in Italy where our son, Victor Osimhen, claimed the crown as the new King of Serie A! The real deal, oridán ganganas younger folks may describe him; Victor has continued the fine tradition of Nigeria’s footballing excellence on the global stage. We are all proud of him and wish him well in what is already a remarkable career,” observed the president-elect in the tweet.

Interestingly, Osimhen who received heroic welcome into the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples yesterday for Napoli’s home game against Fiorentina, saw one penalty saved before scoring another as the new Serie A champions marked their Scudetto celebrations with a 1-0 win amid a carnival atmosphere at the arena.

Having ended a 33-Year wait for another league title, Coach Luciano Spalletti fielded a too much-changed lineups made for a low-key opening.

Osimhen thought he had missed the Partenopei’s best chance for victory  when he had a second-half spot kick saved by Pietro Terracciano, but a foul on his strike partner, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave him the chance to atone for his miss earlier.

He hammered home at the second asking, ensuring that Napoli’s long-awaited  Scudetto party was capped with three points.

Osimhen’s 47th goal in Serie A is his first from the penalty spot. That goal has also now taken him pass George Weah’s 46 goals to become the highest-scoring African player in the Italian topflight history.

Napoli on 83 point, 17 above second placed Lazio, will next  visit Monza for their next Serie A fixture on Sunday.
